The new snow of February 26 + 27th is settling and stabilising, with some lingering wind effects from E, S then N winds around the region. Danger though the forecast period will gradually decrease, but be aware of 'loaded' areas in the high alpine - and keep in mind the deep instability at the base of the snowpack in some areas.

A new snowfall of around 80cm was recorded on the the 26th and 27th. Before this in the sub-alpine and alpine zones, recent warming had consolidated the pack, lessening the danger of weak layers - however these same elevations saw significant loose wet avalanche activity, with some very large slides up to size 3.
Above about 2500 m, we still need to watch out for various buried weaknesses, including old surface hoar, sun crusts and weak snow at the ground in isolated locations. A whumph was reported on 27/2 on a SE aspect at 2700m - this could have been a buried sun crust.
Settled weather with a mix of sun and cloud for the next 3 days. Freezing level 850 Sunday morning rising to 1600 by Tuesday.
Greenhouse effect (clouds + sun), and sun on S slopes could set off loose wet slides. Previously visible obstacles are now buried under new snow - be suspicious of all lumps! Glide cracks and glide avalanches are active - don't stop underneath cracks!
